How This Came to Be

In 2022, I was invited by Andy Firkus, AKA Firkenstein, to contribute music to a small Halloween song collection. I have a number of friends who are musicians, and a few of us have a chat channel where we share things we’re working on. It started with us, and then Andy started asking his various online colleagues. It grew to 41 tracks by over 30 artists and became an amazing album, filled with spooky songs in all sorts of genres.

I struggled with my two songs because I had no direction. So as an exercise, I decided to imagine I’d been hired to score a short film. I wrote a scenario for an imaginary story called Tale of the Eternal Sea, and it worked—I knew how I wanted this scene to file, and that guided me to a completed track…and then another.

But that’s not the end of the story, because now I wanted to write the story. So I did.
